Rules of the Competition
The rules are set forth to ensure safety, sportsmanship, and fair competition and to provide guidelines for the design of the car, as well as who is eligible to race.
The car
- The car will be open-cockpit, open-wheeled (formula style)
- Must be equipped with front and rear suspension with at least 2 inches of travel
- The engine must be a 4-stroke piston engine no more than 610 cc displacement
- The engine may run on either 94 or 100 octane unleaded gasoline, or E85 alcohol
- Cars may be reused from the previous year only if they have undergone significant redesign
Drivers
- All participants must be current students.
- Participants must be a member of SAE, SAE Australia, or IMechE
- Drivers must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license
- No ringers (experienced drivers not on the team) allowed!
Safety
- All cars must meet standards for crash and rollover protection and fluid leaks
- All drivers must wear proper safety equipment including a helmet and fire resistant suit
- A firewall must protect the driver and fire extinguishers will be carried by the support crew
