UP Team Profile and Goals
From the previous pages, you've learned the general details of the Formula SAE competition. This is the actual project. This is a team dealing with the multitude of tasks and problems associated with any project of this size. This is what it looks like as it all comes together.
The team

- The University of Portland is a private ABET accredited school with approximately 2800 undergraduate students, located in Portland, OR.
- 2005 is the first year UP has entered the competition. The school has previously been active in Mini-Baja.
- Formula SAE was initiated as a senior design project. Nine seniors and several underclassmen are invovled. Subsystem tasks are divided up by interest.
Team Goals
- Have the car driveable by March 18th. Conduct 1 and 1/2 months of testing and finishing work prior to race
- Be capable of accelerating 0-60 in under 4 seconds (by comparison a BMW M3 takes 4.8 sec) and corner at greater than 1.15 g's
- Finish all events of the competition. Only 40 of 134 cars finished the endurance race in 2004
- Finish in the top 50% overall.
