Okay... I had to vote for Jon & Kate, of course! But the King's house really is AMAZING!

New rule, Sara... [names withheld] should not be on the same team ever again! ;-P

Merry Christmas!

Oops... Sarah... sorry!

Careful Grace, you don't want to give away any hints of who's who until the voting is over.

And vote for whatever one you want. The topic is "favorite," not "most popular." wink.gif

I first house should be disqualified for the name alone.

So how about telling us who was teamed together, but not which team did which entry?

Joe, I'm not entirely sure what John & Kate + 8 means, but it was nothing to do with the team member names. I was just told to put that up there.

Wow, the votes have really been swinging all over the place.

I'll put the names up once voting's finished. You should be able to hold out that long.

Sarah needs more light in her house. At F/2.8 large portions of the graham cracker houses are out of focus. Makes it hard to choose.

Then again, at 1/13" and ISO800 you must have rock steady hands so kudos to you (or a tripod).

And yay for heptagonal bokeh.

Nerd Award

Most houses could use more light, or I could use a bounce flash. I thought about bringing my tripod, but I didn't want to be "that guy," and I'm pretty good at longer exposures. Despite the shallow DOF, you can see plenty of detail to vote.

I'm not a huge fan of the sharp angles on bokeh my 50mm gives me, but stopped down past F/5.6 the diffraction spikes look awesome.

I don't know, what's the big white thing in the background of the snowman massacre? Pile of snowman bodies, bunnies, igloo (I'd totally vote for an igloo), shrunken version of Marshmellow Man . . .?

Have you tried making your own bokeh? 'Tis the right season. http://iasonooi.blogspot.com/2009/04/bokeh-madness.html

Reportedly it started life as an igloo.

The bokeh thing is interesting. I wouldn't have thought of effectively creating a second aperture.

Here's a description of just who John and Kate are (Warning: not entirely, 100% appropriate). I don't know how you've managed to avoid knowing who John and Kate are, but I wish I could have been as lucky.

That was remarkably inappropriate, but very funny...kind of like a Broken Lizard movie.

I'd heard of them in passing and was vaguely aware they had eight kids, but I didn't realize all the excitement I was missing out on.

Has Nick voted yet? If not, somebody MAKE him. He needs to break the tie so I can declare the winner.

With Nick's vote in, the contest is officially closed! Dan, Natalie, and James take home the trophy for King Wenceslas' Castle (and that despite being a man and a baby down compared to each of the other teams).

It's been a surprisingly heated competition. I think each of the teams held the lead at some point, and until just a couple days ago the Slaughter and the Castle were tied. The rulebook doesn't actually have a contingency in case Nick's vote had returned us to a tie. But enough about that. Here's the standings:

1st: King Wenceslas' Castle
1st place   Natalie, James, Dan

2nd: Snowman Slaughter
2nd place   Kerry, Aimee, Brian, Andy

3rd: John & Kate + 8
3rd place   Sarah, Meghan, Grace, Rob

And yes, I know we look nerdy, but how can you have a castle without knights?

The John & Kate + 8 Team wanted to share a closeup. Apparently there's some backstory to it:

Those who made Snowman Slaughter, and those who voted for it, need therapy.

I think you're just saying that on the basis of having now seen who those people are.
