Uneventful Meeting

Kerry and James met some time back in early high school, so long ago that neither of them are actually even sure when it was. They both were attending a 4-H leadership conference in Pullman, Washington and traveled over in the same group.

There was no remarkable story then, so we’ll skip the rest of that part.

Chance would have it that they ran into each other again at Saint Mary’s parish. Both were active in the youth group and did events together ranging from conferences to delivering Christmas gift baskets to homebound parishoners. Still, there’s nothing worth talking about here either.

Because both were active in 4-H, James and Kerry both ran into each other frequently while showing livestock at the annual county fair. Not that this lead to any interesting stories either.

James eventually left for the University of Portland, while Kerry attended Western and later Washington State University. After school both were working in Portland, met occasionally, and nothing more.

Wait...Seriously?

Not quite: After meeting up at Mass and periodic happy hours with James' college friends for around a year, James gradually (Kerry says "glacially") came to the conclusion that the witty girl with the mischievous smile who had long been a casual friend was actually really fun to hang out with and genuinely worth getting to know better.

So after knowing each other for the better part of a decade, James and Kerry formally started their relationship. It got off to a great start when, on their first date, Kerry accused James of stealing her beer. James blames it on the server. Kerry hasn’t forgiven him.
